Change the Internet Explorer search engine to Google

The most popular search engine on the internet today is Google. However, Microsoft tries to push their own MSN as much as possible. One of the ways of doing this is setting the Internet Explorer search engine to MSN.

This tweak changes it to Google instead.

The tweak

Go to the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search

Change the string value named SearchAssistant to the following:

http://www.google.com/ie

Go to the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Change the string value named Search Bar to the following:

http://www.google.com/ie

and the value named Search Page to the following:

http://www.google.com

Go to the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl

Change the default value to the following:

http://www.google.com/keyword/%s

Go to the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Change the default value named Search Page to the following:

http://www.google.com
