Tweak #35 - june 19, 2002

Sometimes you have a computer that should always be running. You do not want people who are using it to shut it down.

This tweak removes the Shutdown options from the Start menu and from the dialog that appears when you press Alt-Ctrl-Delete.

After applying this tweak, it will still be possible to shut down the computer using the shutdown utility provided on this web site.

This registry hack is only available on Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

The tweak

Go to the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look for the value with the following name:

NoClose

This value does not exist by default. If you don't find it, create it as a REG_DWROD value.

Set this value to 1.
