Network Edition

The Network Edition of Registry Explorer is very similar to the standard edition.

The Network Edition lets you browse the registry of every computer on your network.

Every computer in Network Neighborhood or My Network Places gets a Registry icon.

This version is banner-free.

Remarks:

This version of Registry Explorer uses the Remote Registry Services.

Windows XP Pro:
If the computer is joined to a workgroup and the "Force network logons using local accounts to authenticate as Guest" policy is enabled, you can not explore the computer's registry. Note that this policy is enabled by default for a computer running Windows XP Professional that is joined to a workgroup.

Windows XP Home Edition:
You will not be able to browse the remote registry.

Windows 95/98/Me:
To use Registry Explorer - Network Edition, you must install the Microsoft Remote Registry service. Perform the following steps to install the Microsoft Remote Registry service.

To install the Microsoft Remote Registry service:

  1. In the Network option in Control Panel, click Add.
  2. In the Select Network Component Type dialog box, double-click Service.
  3. In the Select Network Service dialog box, click the Have Disk button.
  4. In the Install From Disk dialog box, type the path to the ADMIN\NETTOOLS\REMOTREG directory on the Windows 95 compact disc, and then click OK.
  5. In the Install From Disk dialog box, click OK.
  6. In the Select Network Service dialog box, click Microsoft Remote Registry, and then click OK.

If you are prompted to specify the location of additional files, specify the path to the files on a shared network directory or on the compact disc.
